The American Poet, Samuel Ullman wrote that “Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind.” While some of us think of ourselves as youthful, many more of us many not be feeling or looking quite so young. Rather than giving only our advice on looking and feeling younger, we asked the Human+Kind community for their tips and here’s their advice.
Marti Kelly on Facebook says; “Sleep.”
Most of us like Marti know that sleep is important but did you know why? About one hour into a deep sleep your body begins to secrete a human growth hormone (HGH). This hormone is responsible for helping to improve the elasticity of your skin. Simple equation really; More good quality sleep = More skin elasticity.
Crystal Wright on Twitter says; “Think about and have good things to say about others. Renew your mind and watch the lines disappear from your face”.
We think Crystal encapsulates the power of positive thinking which according to recent research by German scientists is significant. Dr. Stefanie Brassen and her team discovered that having an optimistic attitude will make your appearance will look younger and brighter.
Carina Maat on Twitter says; Smile every day! :)
In the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin scientists recently proved that smiling makes you look younger . So we say take Carina’s advice smile a bit more today. See what happens! A Japanese proverb says; If you smile you can change yourself, others and your future. And remember, it’s easier to smile than to frown - it takes 43 facial muscles to create a frown, and only 17 to generate a smile!
Tanja Buwalda, Head of Human Interaction at Human+Kind says; “Try to do some regular exercise”
Instinctively we all know that exercise is good for our bodies, but specifically exercise can slow down the aging process. A study, published in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), found that endurance exercise can slow down the aging process . It’s not always easy to motivate ourselves to do regular exercise so how about trying out some new exercise crazes like Bootcamps, Zumba and TRX. Changing your exercise routine regularly prevents you from getting bored and uses different muscles in your body so they don’t get complacent.
The conclusion on looking younger from our Human+Kind community goes something like this:
Sleep + Positivity + Smiling + Exercise + Human+Kind = A younger looking you!
